Dan Polk featured in City Magazine
As an NDSCS college student, Dan Polk saw potential in learning “more than the average bear.” One lesson: a strength overused can be a weakness. “I got into trouble for hacking,” he laughed. “They came to the conclusion that it was in everybody’s best interest to hire me.” So, turning lemons into lemonade, he started the University’s computer help desk. “It was huge for me. Building something from nothing was exactly what I wanted.”

Silicon Plains acquires HitekOne Website Hosting Accounts
On December 1st, 2011, Silicon Plains entered into an agreement with the owners of HitekOne (a now defunct web hosting and design company) to transfer hosting and ownership of a number of websites, domains and associated content to Silicon Plains. This is great news for all involved as the owners of HitekOne move on to other opportunities. For former customers of HitekOne, the transition should be relatively seamless and services that may have been offline in the past will be restored by the SP team.
We’re working through the list of contact people for each website and domain. If we haven’t talked with you yet, please use our contact form to let us know if you are still having issues with the transition, and welcome aboard!

I think it’s fair to say that, to most people, computer-speak is about equivalent to gibberish. We only know what we need to know to make our computer work for us. But what if it’s not working for us in the way we want it to? Who can give us advice about that?

Though large companies like NISC may have great access to the resources that appeal to young professionals, a smaller business like Silicon Plains, LLC relies on a unique environment for job satisfaction among its employees… “We try to make it like a Silicon Valley company. We’re very forward-driven thinkers,” Polk adds. Silicon Plains gives employees the option of working from wherever and whenever they want. It’s apparently working, as the company asserts it has become known regionally as the place to call for timely and economical IT support.

Luke Graner wins Y.E.S.S. Award (Young Entrepreneur Success Story)
Luke Graner strikes us as a twenty-first century Renaissance man: an artist, a musician, an entrepreneur and a stay-at-home dad. A college football player who grew up in Minot, Graner took “the road less traveled” by obtaining a bachelors degree in design from Minnesota State University, Moorhead. He explained, “My good friend, Neal Peterson, was in an art class where they did a bunch of cool graphics projects, and he suggested I take the class, so I tried it out and I was convinced.” Luke has since come to work full-time for Silicon Plains as Creative Director.
